How to Care for Your Lip Gloss (and Your Lips)

Simple habits that keep your gloss fresh, your lips soft and your shine lasting longer.

Keep the cap tight. Air dries out gloss and lets bacteria in, so close the tube after every swipe.

Store it cool. Hot weather can thin out formulas — keep your gloss out of hot cars and direct sun.

Wipe the wand. A quick wipe on a tissue keeps the tube clean and the color true.

Prep your lips. Exfoliate gently once a week with a sugar scrub and finish with a balm before gloss.

Know when to replace. Most glosses are best within 12 months of opening. If the smell or texture changes, it's time for a new one.
